Edible Landscape (2024)

Workshop for Green Streets of Europe

The Edible Landscape workshop, directed by Inês Coelho da Silva, welcomed the artists in Green Streets of Europe into the Northern Portuguese territory by inviting participants to think with (and eat) their surroundings. The activities included a foraging session in the surrounding areas of Santa Maria da Feira and a collective cooking session. The menu included a wild salad (with foraged wild plants and flowers), various wild dips (with three-cornered leeks, dandelions, magnolia blossoms, plantago, nasturtiums, among other local plants), a vegan ‘“feijoada” (with biological local seasonal ingredients), and dandelion root “coffee”. While sharing a meal, participants were asked to acknowledge what they are consuming, looking into ways of promoting biodiversity and more-than-human collaborations. This workshop led to thought-provoking discussions where artists looked at geopolitics and folclore through food, while considering care as a form of political resistance.
